North Shore NEMBA presents It’s 2012 Kids Ride Series for ages 6-16. Come on out and explore the trails alongside the Merrimack River and learn the skills of mountain biking! Certified Ride Leaders and the MTB Patrol will guide kids by their skill levels. Registration recommended, Helmets required.

Willowdale Workday Wrap-Up

On Sunday April 29, our NSNEMBA Trail Project at Willowdale made improvements in several areas thanks to the help of 15 great volunteers. The braided north end of the “Chevette” trail was relocated out of mud and ferns to a more sustainable upland location, now joining the woods road at intersection #2. Much time was spent closing off and naturalizing the trail sections that were eliminated. Existing trails in that vicinity were groomed a bit. Some treadwork/benching was done on “two bridges” and the next singletrack west. We hauled out the remains of a bridge that we replaced last year. After some food and drink, about 10 of us tested out the improvements on what was ideal day to both work and ride.

April 29 Trail Day at Willowdale

Join us Sunday April 29 for a NSNEMBA Trail Care Day at Willowdale SF. Work will include a reroute, some trail definition, drainage improvements, bench cutting, and maybe even a short boardwalk.

We aim to be done around noon with a light lunch and a ride to follow, weather permitting. Tools provided but feel free to bring your favorite. Gloves, decent shoes, bug spray recommended. Only really heavy precip will cancel.

April Chapter Meeting

There will be a chapter meeting and ride on Thursday April 26, 2012. All are welcome. It will be at Lee Hollenbeck’s house in Wilmington. The rides for all abilities will start at 5:00 and 6:00, and will include trails in the Wilmington- Burlington area. The meeting will follow at 8:00.

Directions to Lee Hollenbeck’s House:

5 Mill rd Wilmington MA

From rt 38 in Wilmington, take Butters Row over the 1 lane wooden bridge. Follow to the end and take a left onto Chestnut St. Take second right onto mill rd. Lee’s house is the first driveway on the right past Fernbanks rd.

Monday Night Rides at Willowdale are Back!

The Monday rides at Willowdale State Forest in Ipswich/ Topsfield are back! Beginning on Monday April 30th at 6:00pm meeting at the Wllowdale Meadow parking lot in Topsfield.

The trails in Willowdale are mainly fast and smooth single track allowing the group to cover 10-15 miles in the two hour ride. The ride is open to all, with some folks traveling from NH and other distant chapters to join in the fun. Some people come every week while others make it when their schedules allow. Many of the core group of riders started as beginners when the ride started a few years ago, the group as a whole has improved so much that the ride is now rated as intermediate. The diverse group of men and women, young and old with varying levels of experience stop and chat along the way, and no one is left behind. As the summer progresses the 12- 18 people that usually show each week start to get in good riding shape.
If you are looking for a group ride with a fun bunch of people, on terrain that is interesting but not too technical, just enough log rides and bridges to give you something to shoot for, then come out for Frank’s Monday night ride at Willowdale Meadow departing Monday’s at 6:00 each week.

Harold Parker Thursday Rides 2012

The Thursday rides at Harold Parker State forest will be starting on Thursday May 3rd. Last years rides were very popular with groups of 10 riders frequently coming out to ride some of the very best trails around.

This ride is an intermediate ride as the trails at Harold Parker are pretty technical in nature. So come and work on your technical riding skills, learn the trails or just come on out and join the group and meet new people to ride with. The ride meets at the Jenkins Road lot and rides start at 6:00pm.

Final Group Ride and Chapter Meeting of 2011

The North Shore chapter will be holding it’s final group ride and chapter meeting this coming Sunday November 27th, at Scott and Debi Merloni’s house.

The Merloni’s live at 97 Pineswamp road, Ipswich MA 01934. They are adjacent to Willowdale State Forest, so we can access the trails from their house.

The ride is scheduled to start at 11:00am with the Chapter meeting to follow at 2:00pm

All chapter members are encouraged, and welcome to attend both ride and meeting. The ride will be relaxed and we will break into groups if needed to accommodate different ride paces.

Trails have been walked, cleared, will be marked, and some hit with a leaf blower. Who and what shows for vendors, demos, etc. unknown at this point, but no snow left and hope many have an inclination to ride and support our fundraising effort for Essex County Greenbelt and the Tompson St. Gateway Project.

Wicked Ride of the East cancelled/postponed

Due to the forecast of possible snow accumulation, strong winds, and associated tree/powerline damage, event organizers have decided to cancel the Wicked Ride of the East for tomorrow and attempt to reschedule the event to next Sunday November 6. Stay tuned for additional details and we hope that you can make it next week, if we can make the necessary arrangements.

12th Annual Wicked Ride of the East

Come join North Shore NEMBA for our 12th annual Wicked Ride of the East. The Wicked ride held at Harold Parker State Forest is part of the Kona Bicycles – Fox Shox MTB Adventure ride series. Last year we had a record number of riders. Well in excess of 400 riders enjoyed the trails of Harold Parker, followed by “Leebo’s” homemade world famous Wicked Good Chili. So don’t get left out of the fun, there will be trail maps with marked loops for all abilities.

The 12th annual Wicked Ride of the East is Sunday, October 30th.
